Women Onside was formed in July 2017 to promote gender equality in football.
We wanted to help ensure that FIFA’s gender equality objectives and principles would be adopted into the FFA constitution in Australia.
The FIFA principles include:
- promote the development of women’s football
- promote the full participation of women at all levels of football governance
- make football available and resourced for all who wish to participate
- ensure that federations include women on their boards
We engaged in advocacy with FIFA, the congress review working group, and the media, to include these principles in the FFA statutes.
We were instrumental in achieving gender reforms in the FFA constitution, such as the 40/40/20 principle, and the establishment of the FFA women’s council.
Since then, other women in the game have reached out to us. We found many passionate, capable and generous networks of women across all parts of the game, who wanted to collaborate with us and with each other.
Together, we are building a larger and more diverse network.
