Women Onside acknowledge longstanding contribution of outgoing chair Cheryl Downes

The board of Women Onside wish to acknowledge the significant and longstanding contribution of outgoing chair Cheryl Downes, who retired at the annual general meeting on Monday.

Cheryl was a founding director of Women Onside, and has served as chair for the past year. Following three consecutive terms on the board, the organisation’s constitution requires Cheryl to step down.

Cheryl is the co-founder and editor of Beyond90.com.au, a digital news platform which chronicles and promotes insightful, inclusive and respectful conversation about women’s football. She was previously editor of The Women’s Game. Cheryl also works in IT.

Incoming chair of Women Onside, Kerry Harris, hailed Cheryl’s contribution to Women Onside. “To serve three terms on the board of a new organisation, as it grows and evolves, is a huge contribution,” she said. “Cheryl has played a significant role in getting Women Onside in its present exciting position, making a material impact on the women’s game in Australia and taking bold steps towards a sustainable, impactful future.”

Women Onside board members serve on a voluntary basis.

Long-time Women Onside board member Heather Reid also praised Cheryl’s contribution to the women’s game. “Cheryl has made a vital contribution to Women Onside, including most recently as chair during an important period of transition,” she said. “The organisation has benefited from her leadership and commitment to our mission.”
