Level up! Women’s football leadership conference confirmed for 2023

Details of Australia’s premier event for women’s football leadership, including international and local keynote speakers, have been announced.

The Women in Football Leadership Conference 2023, run by Women Onside, will be held virtually on 25 May 2023 following a successful inaugural conference in 2022.

This year’s theme, “Level Up!”, recognises the efforts being made by women’s football leaders to bring gender equity to football, while also demonstrating the enormous opportunities for new leaders and investors to get involved.

Speakers at the conference will include:

  • Ebru Köksal CFA – former CEO & Board Member of Turkish football club Galatasaray and consultant for UEFA and FIFA; current board member of Australian Professional Leagues

  • Dr Johanna Wood – President of New Zealand Football and FIFA Council Member

  • Rebecca Sowden - former New Zealand Football Fern; women’s sport sponsorship & marketing consultant; founding partner of Team Heroine & ‘Correct The Internet’

Further speakers will be announced in the lead-up to May’s conference.

The event will be moderated by Nicki Bowman, a renowned leadership consultant; co-founder and CEO of the Four Legs Leadership Academy; and founding director of Football South Coast Ltd.

Women Onside Chair Kerry Harris said football is played by more Australian women and girls than any other football code in Australia and is experiencing strong participation growth.

“The 2023 Women in Football Leadership conference is focused on providing the tools and knowledge to women who are current or prospective football leaders to positively support them to take on leadership roles.

“At the same time, we want to show potential partners and investors how they can lead the way with support of our game.

“2023 is of course a milestone year for women’s football in Australia with the nation co-hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“The time to lead and invest in women’s football is now. Around the world, women’s football is growing at a rapid rate making it highly attractive to sponsors and partners.

“Investors have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership through strong and public support for women’s football and its leaders.

The conference is being generously supported by host partner Deakin University.

The technology tools provided by Deakin will ensure the conference is open to a wide audience while providing opportunities for engagement with current and emerging female football leaders from around Australia and internationally.

All current or prospective female football leaders are encouraged to take part in the conference as are others with an interest in women’s football, sports partnerships/sponsorships and those wanting to see women’s sport grow and lead the way across our community.

Further details about the conference including how to buy tickets will be announced soon.
