Women Onside Proud to Continue Partnership with Global Institute of Sport

Women Onside is thrilled to announce the continuation of our partnership with the Global Institute of Sport (GIS) to empower women in the football industry.

Women Onside shares GIS’s vision of increasing female participation in global football. Our partnership, unique in its focus on female empowerment in the football industry, has brought numerous benefits, such as providing GIS students with valuable work experience and research opportunities.

We collaborate on various initiatives, including hosting events and offering guest speaker and thought leadership opportunities. We are excited to continue the Women Onside and Global Institute of Sport Scholarship for the September 2024 intake.

This scholarship is designed for women aspiring to advance their football coaching and analysis careers within Australia. It offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, access to industry leaders, and a significant tuition fee discount.

Eligible applicants for the GIS MSc Football Coaching and Analysis program can benefit from the scholarship, which aims to nurture the next generation of female sports industry leaders.

The scholarship includes:

  • A 15% tuition fee discount (approx. $3,000 AUD)

  • An applied research project addressing a Women Onside challenge

  • Mentorship from a Women Onside board member

  • Work experience through Women Onside

  • Free access to a GIS Summit

To qualify, applicants must be based in Australia, enrolled in the MSc Football Coaching and Analysis (distance with attendance) program, and have at least three months of football experience.

Our 2023-24 scholarship recipient, Anouk Meereboer, is a shining example of the success that can be achieved through the Women Onside and Global Institute of Sport Scholarship. She shared her experience:

“Women Onside connected me with knowledgeable and experienced women in football. My mentors have been incredibly supportive, providing valuable feedback and helping me develop my coaching skills.”

Women Onside chair Cheryl Downes remarked,

"We're delighted to partner with GIS to continue our collaborative work, providing learning opportunities for women in football in Australia. Last year, we supported Anouk, a football coach now mentored by a former Matildas player and manager. This year, we aim to expand this initiative, contributing to the legacy of the record-breaking FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand."
