Women Onside sign inaugural Impact Manager, Samantha Lewis

Women Onside is delighted to announce the hiring of respected Australian women’s football journalist and advocate Samantha Lewis (she/they) as our inaugural Impact Manager. Samantha will join Women Onside in January.

Sam is well-known for her insightful, impactful coverage of the women’s game, for national broadcaster ABC, and previously as a freelance contributor to the Guardian, Optus, SBS and ESPN. They are also part of The Far Post podcast. Sam has been at the forefront of coverage of women’s football in Australia in recent years, including during the Women’s World Cup.

“Following a competitive recruitment process, we are delighted to announce the hiring of Sam – someone synonymous with women’s football in Australia,” said Women Onside Deputy Chair Kieran Pender. “As our first executive role, this appointment will help take Women Onside to the next level. We could not be more excited about what Sam will bring to the organisation.”

Sam said she was excited about the potential for impact. “After over a century in the shadows, women's football and women in football are finally starting to step out into the sun and change our sport for the better,” they said.

“The fact that this role exists at all is a testament to that growth, as well as the legacy of our home FIFA Women's World Cup and the impact our Matildas have made on the game here. I'm so excited to be joining Women Onside as their inaugural impact manager to help build on that legacy, using all the passion and knowledge and experience I have to drive positive change for women, non-binary people, and other marginalised communities in Australian football.”

Women Onside is an Australian not-for-profit membership and advocacy organisation working to ensure women in football everywhere. Our mission is to significantly improve engagement, access, opportunity and empowerment for all women involved in football, on the field and in coaching, refereeing, administration and volunteer roles. We aim to inform, inspire and influence.
